Thurston Co. Fair

Another busy weekend going to the fair. Boy this retired living is tough :)

Thurston County Fair http://www.co.thurston.wa.us/fair/default.asp time again, I haven't been to it for years. Not too much has changed, chickens and pigs and cows and goats, etc. I can't believe I didn't take any pictures of all the critters. We spent hours walking through and seeing them all or at least a quick peek at most of them.

We also spent time looking at the crafts, foods and flower entries... I loved the unusual flowers so much that I did take pictures of those. I would love to add some of the strange looking blooms to my own gardens. Always on the lookout for something new when I go to the nursery.

Spent a bit of time relaxing while sitting in the shade and watching the horses running through their paces. We never did figure out why some got eliminated and others got to go on to the next round. It seemed like every time we picked out who we thought was the best.  Out they went. Oh well good thing we weren't the judges.

Love that polka dot horse! I didn't know they had polka dot horses!
Ended the day with a tasty lunch. Of corn dog and curly fries, and a taste of a raspberry coated elephant ear.
YUM!

Wonderful Surprise Win

As most every one that knows me knows... I love contests! I love winning contests even more :)

This week I was the lucky recipient of a contest that Mary was having at  Try, Try Again . I received three beautiful refrigerator magnets.
I know... why am I excited about magnets? Because the pictures behind them are just amazing. Mary actually "paints" each original pictures out of clay. She uses stiffer clays as the "canvas" and uses the softer clays as paint. Then bakes them all for the finished product. I am amazed at the detail and depth they have. And I only have a copy printed on the magnets. The originals must be truly fantastic!

all 3 magnet pictures.

 "Country Kitty" and "Owl"

So a BIG thank you to Mary.
I really love my new decorations on my fridge. Mary has a beautiful shop Uniquely Mary on Etsy showcasing her work and some collectible vintage items too. Lots of wonderful hand crafted items are available from books to adorable little wire seahorses. Plus, you can pick up some of the same magnets I received.
